| Hello again. I thought I might show some photos of our garden and around our house. We live in a remote town on the North western coast of Australia, with a sub tropical climate. Through our town flows a large river called the Gascoyne River. It is a most unusual river in that it flows 'upside down' Most of the year the river bed is just sand, but much water flows beneath the surface. Sometimes during the year, we have high rainfalls and the river will 'flow' water on the surface. We use the river water all year round by way of a 'bore' which pumps the river water from beneath the surface, up to and around our property. This makes our town very good for agriculture. Our Sub Tropical climate and the availability of water allows us to grow many tropical fruits. There are many plantations along the river that grow Bananas, Mangoes, Papaya/pawpaw, and many many vegetables. We own a very small property (half an acre), but have within, a small plantation. We have 50 Mango trees, and some other fruit trees, such as; Bananas, Lemon, Avocado, Mulberry, Tahitian Lime, Kaffir Lime, Olive, Papaya, and Figs. We also have an are set aside for growing vegetables such as Tomato, Lettuce, Cabbage, Spinach, Zucchini, Eggplant, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Capsicum, and many many more... Also many herbs around the yard , Lemongrass, Curry tree, Bay leaf tree, Rosemary, Basil, Galangal, Chives and more... Below is some photos of various plants around my garden... (Click thumbnail images for larger view) One of 4 lemongrass patches, nearby is some Rosemary, and a young Pineapple plant Some of our Mango trees Lime tre (left) Lemon Tree (right) and Fig tree behind The Vegetable patch with Mulberry tree behind Banana Patch One of 2 Galangal Curry Tree Our Chockens, Duck and Dog in front yard Hope you enjoy seeing around our home. | |

| About Galangal Akinabalu, Galangal is a little like Ginger... Sometimes it is called Thai Ginger or Blue Ginger... Above is a link to some more information... I use it when cooking Thai style food, although, I dont like to dig up my garden too much (lol it looks too pretty) so I usually buy the root from the supermarket | |

| I wonder how the banana tree there looks. Is it the same as what we have here in Malaysia Aussie? I mean, it's height etc. Of course here we have so many names of banana such as: pisang raja, pisang emas, pisang tanduk, and many more. Can you share with us the types of banana in Australia Aussie? | |

| Hello Skyjetj... The type of Bananas most commonly grown here are called Cavendish or Williams variety. The tree is mesdium/large height and the Banana is medium sized. Here is a link to a little more information about banana plantations in our town. Carnarvon Bananas I have only a small patch of bananas and dont have any bunches growing at the moment. There is a photo of my banana patch in the first post about my garden. All the fruit and vegetable we grow in our yard is just for my family to use, and any extra we give to friends. We do not grow large quantities for commercial profit. I love my garden and I love to see things grow... I especially love to be able to eat and use what we grow | |
